Recently, a few US companies have been promoting shark repellent technologies as "effective" without any substantiation of claims
or evidence of efficacy. In some instances, the products are described inaccurately, have exaggerated claims, or are infringing on our technologies.
Since 2003, SharkDefense has worked hard to remove the "snake oil"
stigma associated with past shark repellent technologies. We hope you find the information below helpful in segregating legitimate shark repellent research from the "snake oil". Please be an informed researcher, and please
feel free to contact us if you are writing or blogging about shark repellents. It is our hope that you will recognize SharkDefense's significant contributions in shark conservation and bycatch reduction research, and not paint
all repellent technologies with a broad brush. Note: If your company is cited below, you may have your entry removed once field testing videos, test data, or peer reviewed research indicating the success of your claims are
provided to us or made publicly available.
